What Is Rotary

Rotary is an international humanitarian Service Membership organization with a network of 1.2 million passionate neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem solvers in over 35,000 clubs worldwide who, “Together, see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change—across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” ( Rotary Vision Statement) As a non-political, non-religious philanthropic organisation Rotary is inclusive of all cultures, races, and creeds and follows the principle of tolerance. It follows the adage of “ Vasudeva Kutumbaka,” or seeing the entire world as a global family. The Rotary Mission is “ to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.”
Who are Rotarians?
Rotarians are people who share a passion for and commitment to serve their communities locally and improve lives across the world by volunteering their time, talents and skills. Rotarians are People of Action who come together to bring change in the world, in their communities and in themselves. They not only provide humanitarian service but also encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and foster goodwill and peace in the world. They represent a cross-section of the community. A Rotarian is gifted the opportunity to take action and make a difference. Rotary members believe they have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. In the process lifelong friendships are made and personal rewards follow.
